Yani Tseng: A Star to Follow

To many young golfers in Taiwan and around the world, Taiwanese golfer Yani Tseng is inspirational. Ranked as the number one female golfer, she is the youngest golfer ever to win five major championships. She is enthusiastic about golf and about life, and her talent and personality make her a good role model for young people everywhere.

Tseng’s career started early, at the age of six. Her mother and father both play golf well, and Tseng went with them to the golf course every weekend. Within a few years, Tseng’s father saw that the young girl had serious talent, so he hired successful golfer Tony Kao as her coach. When she was eight years old, Tseng played in her first tournament. After that, there was no stopping her.

Tseng left Taiwan for the United States when she was 12 years old. She did so in order to pursue her dream of becoming a golf star. At 18 years old, Tseng turned professional. In 2011, she won tournaments in the United States, Australia, Thailand, China, Scotland, South Korea, and Taiwan. Now 23 years old, Tseng was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME Magazine.

There is more to Yani Tseng than just golf, though. Her outgoing personality and positive attitude have helped her become a celebrity. She is always smiling, even when playing competitive golf. When nearly 12,000 fans came to get her autograph at Taiwan’s Sunrise Golf & Country Club last year, she was truly surprised. She didn’t think she was that popular in Taiwan.

Despite her success, Tseng remains a down-to-earth young woman who shows her willingness to give back to the community. She once wrote to Taiwan’s president to shed light on what she saw as the government’s lack of interest in sports. It was because of her insistence that the LPGA came to Taiwan in 2011. Tseng also has a vision to build an all-sports academy for budding Taiwanese athletes from less fortunate families. She hopes to give those in the next sporting generation the opportunity to pursue their dreams like she did.

An outstanding young athlete, Yani Tseng is a shining Taiwanese star. Her example lights the path for others to follow and shows how hard work and determination can sometimes lead to amazing success.

對許多台灣及世界各地的年輕高爾夫球選手來說，台灣高球女將曾雅妮總是能啟發人心。女子高球排名第一的曾雅妮是史上拿下五座重要賽事冠軍的最年輕高爾夫球選手。她對高爾夫球和生命懷抱熱情，而她的天分及個性也使她成為全球青年的典範。
曾雅妮早在六歲時便開始她的高爾夫球生涯。她的雙親皆是高爾夫球好手，曾雅妮每個週末都會隨著父母到球場。短短幾年間，曾雅妮的父親發覺這個小女孩天分過人，於是聘請成功的高球選手高柏松來擔任她的教練。曾雅妮在八歲時參加了她人生的第一場錦標賽。爾後，便沒有任何事能阻擋曾雅妮打球。
曾雅妮十二歲時離開台灣前往美國。她這麼做的原因是為了追求成為高爾夫球明星的夢想。曾雅妮十八歲時轉為職業選手。二○一一年時，曾雅妮贏得美國、澳洲、泰國、中國、蘇格蘭、南韓及台灣的錦標賽冠軍。現年二十三歲的曾雅妮更被《時代雜誌》選為全世界百大最具影響力的人物之一。
不過，曾雅妮的成就不只是在高爾夫球而已。她外向的個性以及正面的態度助她成為名人。即使在相當競爭的球賽中，她也總是面帶微笑。去年將近一萬兩千名球迷在台灣的揚昇高爾夫球場向她索取簽名時，她著實感到訝異。她沒想到自己在台灣是如此受歡迎。
儘管成就非凡，曾雅妮仍是個腳踏實地、展現回饋社會意願的年輕女孩。她曾寫信給台灣總統，闡述她認為政府不積極發展運動的問題。由於她的堅持，才促成LPGA於二○一一年來台灣開賽。曾雅妮還有一個願景，就是開辦一所體育學院，以培養家境不優渥的新進台灣選手。她希望能夠給下一個運動世代機會，可以像她一樣追求夢想。
曾雅妮是名傑出的年輕運動員，她是一顆耀眼的台灣之星。她的典範為後進照亮了一條跟進之路，並且證明努力與決心有時可以引領人達到輝煌的成就。
