Whether it’s in the workplace or our personal lives, we frequently need to cooperate to achieve our goals. However, getting the support and help of others is not always straightforward and there is a knack to influencing people for mutual benefit. Find out some of the secrets with our guide:

A Different Perspective
First things first: Put yourself in the other person’s position and try to imagine what your view would be if you were them. Would the request you are making seem reasonable? Setting aside personal interests and acting in a way that is beneficial to all is the starting point.

Reasons to Be Cheerful
People obviously respond better to someone who exudes positive vibes. A compliment or friendly remark can be an icebreaker that sets you off on the right foot. Remember to be sincere, though, or it will look like calculated flattery ahead of your request!

Stop, Look and Listen
Be patient and take heed of what the other person has to say. As well as listening to them, observe their body language. Because everyone is different, you will have to adjust your tactics to fit each case. Paying attention to the other person will help you see what works and what doesn’t. One technique, known as “mirroring”, is to copy the other person’s tone, rhythm and actions to put them at ease.

停、看、聽保持耐心並留心對方要說的話。除了聆聽，也要觀察他們的肢體語言。因為每個人都不同，你就必須調整你的策略來配合每種情況。注意對方會幫助你了解什麼是有用和無效的。一個稱作「鏡像模仿」的技巧是仿傚對方的語調、節奏與行為來讓他們安心。
