Talking About the Weather: What’s the Weather Like?

用英語談論天氣：天公不作美？

Part A

Sam and Ellen are watching the news.

山姆和愛倫在看新聞。

Sam: It looks like the typhoon will finally be over tomorrow.

Ellen: That’s great. I’m so sick of this wind and rain.

Sam: What is the weather going to be like on the weekend?

Ellen: The weatherman says that there’s a 50 percent chance of rain, and a 50 percent chance of clear skies.

Sam: If the weather’s nice, we should go on a picnic this Saturday.

Ellen: I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Sam: Really? Why not?

Ellen: Even if it’s clear, it’s going to be really hot. It’s going to be 35°C.

山姆：看來颱風明天終於要遠離了。

愛倫：太好了，我受夠了這些風雨。

山姆：週末天氣會如何？

愛倫：氣象播報員說有百分之五十的降雨機率，百分之五十的會放晴。

山姆：如果是好天氣，我們這星期六應該去野餐。

愛倫：我不覺得那是個好主意。

山姆：真的嗎？為什麼？

愛倫：即使放晴，天氣也會很熱，氣溫會飆到三十五度。

Part B

They are talking about what to do on the weekend.

他們在討論週末要做什麼事。

Ellen: If it’s too hot outside, let’s watch a DVD at home.

Sam: OK. It could help us get away from the heat. What should we watch?

Ellen: I bought some new DVDs last week. One of them is called Snow Monster. I think it will be good.

Sam: That sounds interesting. What is it?

Ellen: It’s about people who live in a cold, freezing place. It snows there every day. Then, a monster attacks them!

Sam: That’s too scary for me. I don’t want to have bad dreams. Let’s do something else.

Ellen: I think you’re chicken!

愛倫：外面太熱了，我們在家看DVD吧。

山姆：好啊，那可以幫助我們避暑，我們該看什麼呢？

愛倫：我上週買了一些新的DVD，其中一部叫《雪地怪獸》，我覺得會很好看。

山姆：聽起來很有趣，內容在講什麼？

愛倫：是關於一群住在冰天雪地的人，他們住的地方天天都下雪，然後有隻怪獸攻擊他們！

山姆：那對我來說太恐怖了，我不想做惡夢，我們做別的事吧。

愛倫：你這膽小鬼！

Part C

Ellen has another idea.

愛倫有另一個主意。

Ellen: Let’s go to Taipei this weekend. We can go to the top of Taipei 101.

Sam: But it’s so rainy in Taipei. If it’s cloudy, we won’t be able to see anything.

Ellen: You’re right. It might be windy there, too.

Sam: We should plan for good weather and bad weather. If the weather is warm and sunny, we should go on a picnic.

Ellen: What should we do if it’s pouring?

Sam: We’ll stay home, but I don’t want to watch that scary DVD.

Ellen: You got it. I hope the weather will be just right.

愛倫：我們這週末去臺北吧，我們可以去臺北一0一的頂樓。

山姆：但臺北常下雨。如果是陰天，就什麼也看不到。

愛倫：你說得對，臺北可能風也會很大。

山姆：我們應該為好天氣和壞天氣做打算。如果天氣暖和、陽光普照，我們應該去野餐。

愛倫：那如果下大雨怎麼辦？

山姆：我們就待在家，但我不想看那部恐怖的DVD。

愛倫：沒問題，希望天氣會剛剛好。
